The Pasadena City College women's badminton team remained perfect at 5-0 this season with a 19-2 road victory over East Los Angeles in a South Coast Conference match Mar. 17. The Lancers extended their conference win streak to 25 matches, all under head coach Jen Ho, and are 4-0 to top the SCC thus far in 2017.
The PCC doubles team of Sarah Thaw and Hong Yan Liu scored two wins, including one over ELAC's No. 1 pair of Jean Buenaflor and Quan Zhang, 21-16, 21-12. Lancers No. 2 pairing of Natalie Ong and JunTing Huang added two victories, defeating Buenaflor-Zhang, 22-20, 21-9.
In singles, Thaw downed Buenaflor in a matchup of the school's top seeds, 21-10, 21-17, and downed Zhang, 21-11, 21-2. Pasadena No. 4 Janin Herrera, No. 5 May Hy, and No. 6 Annie Ly all recorded two wins. Ong, No. 2, and Noemi Diaz, at No. 3, won one singles match each.
"ELAC improved from the last time we played them, but so have we," Ho said. "We have done a good job of wearing down opponents. In our lower ladder, we controlled those matches in most of the second sets. We just have to continue to be focused and stay on course."
PCC next visits El Camino College-Compton Center on Wednesday, Mar. 22 in a 2 p.m. match.
