One of the great running backs in PCC football history, Al Napoleon was twice selected First Team JC All-American, an accomplishment that only one other athlete (Don Waddell, 1942-44) has achieved. He rushed for 1,698 yards in 275 carries, averaging 6.2 yards per attempt. He remains fifth on the all-time PCC rushing list. In 1951, he was the second PCC player to reach 1,000 yards rushing in a season with the first being Jackie Robinson in 1938. Napoleon set a Junior Rose Bowl record rushing for 200 yards in 23 attempts to help PCC defeat Tyler, Texas, 28-26, before just under 42,000 fans. Napoleon's opening run was 63 yards for a touchdown. The two PCC teams that Napoleon participated totaled a sparkling 20-2 record. Napoleon went on to play at Stanford University.
