PCC Football's Lozano, Muhammad Unanimous SCFA All-Metro League

Sophomores Enrique Lozano and Yusef Muhammed led a list of 15 Pasadena City College football players selected to the 2017 SCFA All-Metro League Team. Lozano was a unanimous choice by coaches as a punter on the First Team Defense while Yusef Muhammad was the same as punt returner on First Team Defense. The two Lancers are 2-time, All-Metro First Team selections with Lozano selected at kicker and Muhammad as kick returner as freshmen.

Lozano (Montebello High) led the league at 37.5 yards per punt as he landed 16 punts inside the 20. He boomed a career-best, 65-yard punt in the team's season finale at Santa Ana. He was sixth in the SCFA and 13th in the state. Lozano perhaps made more of an impact with his placekicking as he scored 61 points, including setting a PCC record for longest field goal of 50 yards. He was 11th in the state in points-a-game for kicker at 6.1.

Muhammad (Potomac High, Maryland) averaged 14.2 yards on 11 punt returns, including one for a 72-yard touchdown. Muhammad was also a Second Team Defense at kick returner with a nifty 30.6 yards average in 14 returns. 

Also making All-Metro First Team Defense was sophomore safety Ty Apana-Purcell (Mililani High, Hawaii), who tied for the team lead in interceptions with three and added 28 tackles. Lancers chosen All-Metro First Team Offense were second-year transfer wide receiver Stevie Williams, sophomore tight end Jordan Bruner, and freshman offensive lineman Juan De La Torre.

Williams (Garfield High) was sixth in the state in receptions per game at 6.1 (seventh in yards average) as he finished with 55 catches for 830 yards and PCC high 10 touchdowns. His 62 points overall just edged Lozano for the team scoring title. Bruner made 15 receptions for 249 yards and four TDs as he also was strong on blocking. De La Torre (Salesian High) was an unsung hero on the O-Line in helping PCC's rushing game to average a strong 157.7 yards in six games. The team averaged 31.1 points a game overall, good enough for 23rd in the state and 13th in the SCFA.

Making Second Team Defense were sophomore tackle Adrian Huerta (West Covina HS, 11 tackles), sophomore inside linebacker Jasper Chavez (Rosemead, led team with 55 tackles), sophomore outside linebacker Matt Terlizzi (Bishop Amat, second on squad with 45 tackles), and sophomore cornerback Marquis Williams (Garfield, 13 tackles, four pass break-ups and one interception).

Lancers picked to Second Team Offense were freshman lineman Kaelen Whiteside (Dunbar High, Kentucky), frosh wide receiver Forest Fajardo (Burbank High, 33 receptions, 326 yards, two TDs), sophomore running back Amad Andrews (Alemany, 93 carries, 512 yards, and four TDs), sophomore all-purpose/utility and wide receiver Kyle Torres (McNary High, Oregon, led team with 1,020 all-purpose yards, including 33 catches for 573 yards and six TDs; plus a team-best 447 yards in 19 kick returns for a 23.5 yards average), and utility frosh tight end Kaleb Prejean (Stonewall Jackon, Virginia, 8 receptions and two TDs).

PCC was directed by interim head coach Steven Mojarro this season as the team battled for a 5-5 overall record and a 4-2, third place mark in the Metro.
