Men's Basketball's Darrius Freeman Headed To Southwestern Oklahoma State

Pasadena City College men's basketball point guard Darrius Freeman is headed to the next level on a playing scholarship at NCAA Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State.

An All-South Coast Conference North Division First Team selection, Freeman led the entire 12-team SCC in assists average at 5.9 per game. He kept a streak going by Lancers players of leading the conference in assists average, now at four straight seasons.

The 6-foot-2 product of Palmdale's Pete Knight High finished his 2-year Lancers career as 2-season starter, scoring 621 career points, 55th on the PCC All-Time Scoring List, in 57 career games.

SWOSU head coach Brett Weiberg is excited about Freeman's signing.

"We're pleased that Darrius has chosen to be a part of our Bulldog family. He's a strong, physical point guard and a serious rim threat. He's also a legitimate three-point threat as well. PCC (interim head) coach Spenser Nunes has done such a good job of developing him and was instrumental in getting Darrius to SWOSU. His players are terrific at playing off two feet and making the right play."

Nunes' Lancers squad accomplished a 3.6 GPA during the 2025-26 academic year. He announced that Donovan Ford, a 6-6 sophomore forward, is expected to make a decision soon on attending a NAIA university. Wing Julian Thompkins is considering an offer to play at NAIA Park Gilbert (Arizona).

All-SCC honorable mention forward Cooper Creamer (3.96 GPA) turned down offers from several universities to pursue a math degree at UC San Diego.
