A Downer For Men's Soccer As 2021 Season Concludes

Murphy's law states anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. And that was the case for the Pasadena City College men's soccer team as it had a somewhat sour experience in the ill-conceived South Coast Conference Tournament held Nov. 5 and 9. The Lancers season ended on Tuesday with a 3-1 loss to Compton College as they officially placed 10th out of the 10 teams in the tourney.

Men's Soccer Puts A Dagher Into Winless Streak

Facing the prospect of being held scoreless for the seventh time this season and desperate to end a 7-game winless streak, the Pasadena City College men's soccer team faced its match in Compton College on Tuesday. The Tartars came into the South Coast Conference game with an 8-game winless streak and had been shut out in nine games.

It was as unlikely an outcome as could be considering the recent paths of the two teams, but the Pasadena City College men's soccer team came up with its best defensive effort of the season to earn a 0-0 tie at state #5 and host Mt. San Antonio. The South Coast Conference game was played under the lights Friday night in Walnut.

Rio Hondo Sends Men's Soccer To SCC-Opening Defeat

Just three minutes into the second half, the Pasadena City College men's soccer team thought it was about to take a 2-1 lead over state No. 14-ranked Rio Hondo College in the South Coast Conference opener. Asher Smith got past the Roadrunners goalie and footed a shot that at first seemed like was going into a wide open net. But Rio Hondo defender Sebastain Jose Bibian amazingly got his right foot out in time to deflect ball from mid-air and out of harm's way.

Late Surge Lifts Men's Soccer Past Moorpark, 4-2

After watching a 2-0 second-half lead evaporate in a hurry v.  visiting Moorpark College, the Pasadena City College men's soccer team responded with its own offensive spurt. Ronaldo Chavez scored with seven minutes left and Asher Smith picked up an insurance goal in the 90th minute as the Lancers defeated Moorpark, 4-2, at Robinson Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

Men's Soccer Holds Off Imperial Valley Rally, 4-3

For 75 minutes, the Pasadena City College men's soccer team was having fun, creating numerous skilled scoring plays, and enjoying a 4-0 lead. But any game can turn on a dime and the Lancers needed every bit of the lofty advantage to withstand a late Imperial Valley College rally, winning 4-3. The non-conference game was played at Robinson Stadium.

Nathan Cruz supplied the scoring touch with two goals and goalie Paul Jing, who was a late sub as starting goalie for the contest, was all over the box to cut down opponent scoring chances as the Pasadena City College men's soccer team blanked Orange Coast College, 3-0, Friday at Robinson Stadium.

Men's Soccer Dominates At Southwestern, 3-0

The Pasadena City College men's soccer team established a relentless attack and a stifling defense in blanking host Southwestern, 3-0, in a non-conference game on Tuesday. It was the first victory by a Lancers team since Nov. 15, 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic layoff.
