The Pasadena City College men's soccer team went from a 5-game undefeated streak (3-0-2) to now losing three straight games, including an 0-2 beginning to the South Coast Conference schedule. Visiting Los Angeles City College edged the Lancers, 1-0, on Friday.

The Pasadena City College men's soccer team went from a 5-game undefeated streak (3-0-2) to now losing three straight games, including an 0-2 beginning to the South Coast Conference schedule. Visiting Los Angeles City College edged the Lancers, 1-0, on Friday.
PCC (5-5-2 overall) outshot the Cubs, 13-7, and dominated with a 9-1 shots edge in the first half. But the Lancers could not get a shot past LACC goalie Santiago Navarro, who made 10 saves.
In the 55th minute, Navarro sent a long ball and Edison Lopez broke free to score the game's long goal for LA City (now 4-7-1, 2-0 in SCC play).
"The effort is there but we either have some breakdowns on defense or we can't finish plays on offense," said PCC head coach Francisco Cantero. "We couldn't match the intensity of our opponent in our loss to LA Harbor. Before that, we were outplayed by state #8-ranked San Bernardino Valley. That's a team we needed to face to prepare for some tough conference games."
"We have a fairly young team and they just have to learn to limit the mistakes and improve in implementing our game plan. It's going to be tough going forward because the SCC is one challenge after another."
In the conference-opening loss at Harbor, 5-2, on Oct. 3, Eduardo Sanchez and Alek Kaprielian scored the Lancers goals. Kaprielian directed in a free kick by Emiliano Escobar for his score in the 85th minute. Sanchez netted his on a scramble in front of the goal after a corner kick in the 29th minute which had cut the Seahawks lead to 2-1 at that point.
Romario Lemus scored the next two goals for Harbor to complete a hat trick.
In the SBVC 4-1, road defeat on Sept. 29, the Lancers' lone goal was scored by Angel Ballesteros on an assist by Jose Perez in the 70th minute. PCC trailed 1-0 at halftime, but the Wolverines got back-to-back goals from David Politron to make it 3-0 early in the second half.
The Lancers next travel to face #13 Long Beach City in a 4 p.m, SCC match on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
