The Pasadena City College men's soccer team is off to its best start of a season in 16 years with a 3-0 record after defeating Palomar, 3-1, on Friday.
The Lancers, directed by head coach Francisco Cantero, once again got kick-started by a goal from Diego Lazo, who broke a scoreless tie five minutes into the second half. Lazo has scored a goal in each of the three victories.
Lazo went to his left foot for goal near side after a through ball sent in by Ronaldo Garcia. PCC would net all three goals in a span of 13 minutes.
In the 59th minute, Josiah Lucio followed his own corner kick by finding a loose ball and crossing it to Ariel Hernandez, who headed in a shot from five yards out.
Four minutes later, on a counter attack, Garcia picked up his second assist as his through ball found Dominic Quijada, who also went left foot to score.
The Comets ruined PCC's shutout on a penalty kick goal by Arturo Atilano-Gutie with two minutes left.
"It was a great win to finish off the week on a positive note," Cantero said. "The guys were able to create a lot of chances that their goalkeeper made great saves on in the first half. We were finally able capitalize on three chances in that 15-minute spree. We hope this win continues to lead us in the right direction as we play a majority of our games on the road in September."
PCC goes on a 4-game road swing and then returns to Robinson Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 24 v. College of the Canyons (3 p.m. kickoff).
