South Coast Conference Complete Championship Results
The Pasadena City College men's team saved its best for last at the South Coast Conference Swim Championships held April 16-18 at El Camino College.
The Lancers scored a conference title in the 200-yard medley relay as an entire freshmen four in Tristan Chou, De'Andre Paiz, Jordan Choi and Michael Khoury swam 1:37.01 for first place. It was the 66th SCC men's event title directed by head coach Terry Stoddard, whose South Coast run began in 2001. It was the first Lancers relay victory since 2018 and third in the shorter medley relay, also PCC winning that in 2009 and 2017.
Including women's events, Stoddard has coached 147 conference champions in the last 26 years.
While Mt. San Antonio won the SCC team title, PCC battled in a close race for the second through fifth spots. Long Beach City was second with 468 points, El Camino third at 465, Cerritos fourth at 456 and PCC not too far behind in fifth place in the standings with 389. Chaffey in sixth and Rio Hondo in seventh rounded out the placings. The Lancers were tied for third place in the dual meet season standings at 3-3.
The PCC 400 medley relay scored third (3:37.11).
Paiz placed third in the 100 breaststroke (58.78 in the finals, had a faster 58.59 in the prelims) and fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.90). Chou was third in the 100 backstroke (56.31) and fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:04.94).
Choi took fourth in the 100 IM (58.06) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (54.12) while Khoury scored fifth in both the 50 freestyle (22 flat) and 100 free (48.89).
The short-handed PCC women's squad placed eighth with point scorers in Yahaira Martinez taking eighth in the 1,650 freestyle (23:11.98) and Elyssa Guevara in the 200 butterfly (12th, 2:59.40) and 100 butterfly (15th, 1:17.95). Both Martinez and Guevara are sophomores who swam their final races as Lancers.
