Women's Soccer Breaks Scoreless String, Ties LBCC, 1-1

After three straight shutout losses, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team finally netted a goal as the Lancers earned a 1-1 tie Tuesday against Long Beach City College in a South Coast Conference crossover game at Robinson Stadium.

After three straight shutout losses, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team finally netted a goal as the Lancers earned a 1-1 tie Tuesday against Long Beach City College in a South Coast Conference crossover game at Robinson Stadium.

LBCC (6-4-3) scored in the 26th minute when Sophia Barragan faked her corner kick and instead placed a perfect pass to Aubree Furman, who launched a drive into the upper net. The Vikings took a 1-0 lead and fans were wondering if it would hold up based on the Lancers lack of offense of late. 

Instead, just three minutes later, it was the Lancers turn for a corner kick. Emily Matthiesen sent a ball that was first headed by Alexxis Molinar off the cross bar. Yulissa Macias got the rebound and scored on a high kick just under the bar. It was the first PCC goal in 319 minutes of action, going back to another 1-1 tie against East Los Angeles on October 3. 

Neither team would score again, although it was PCC goalie Lilly Urumieh who helped prevent a possible defeat. Urumieh made six saves, including a couple of dazzling stops in the second half. In the 62nd minute, Urumieh made an acrobatic save on a header from a corner kick by Casey Angers. She also snagged the rebound attempt by Victoria Gonzalez to keep the game tied. Urumieh also helped out her team with some long kicks to midfield, keeping PCC out of trouble in its own end.

The best chance for PCC in the second half was turned in by Macias, who headed a free kick by Molinar from the 35-yard line just wide of the right post in the 73rd minute. 

It's still been a tough stretch for the Lancers (6-4-3 overall), who are now winless in their last seven games (0-4-3) after their start-of-the-season, 6-game win streak. PCC's offense has produced just three goals in the winless string.
