Women's Soccer Stays Undefeated At 6-0-2

Matching a streak of eight straight games without a defeat in 2019, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team continued its dominating run through opponents thus far this season with a 4-0 win at Santa Ana College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lancers won their third straight game and improved to 6-0-2 as they are now just one of eight teams left in the state still undefeated. Unranked PCC now will have its biggest test of the season when it travels to face state #2-power point rated Chaffey (6-1), the #3-ranked state team on the CCCSIA Top 20. 

PCC has outscored opponents, 20-3, as goalie Francesca Agliolo didn't have to make a single save in the team's fifth shutout. 

Megan Schmidt scored twice to add to her team-leading total of five goals. 

Pasadena opened the scoring in the 15th minute as Angely Puga drew two defenders, made a pass to Charlie Gallardo, who rifled in a 20-yard shot into the left corner for her third goal of the season. In the 35th minute, Delilah Vazquez delivered a pass to Schmidt who muscled her way to her right before driving a shot into the upper corner of the net from outside the 18-yard box. 

Ten minutes into the second half, Bertha Guzman received a touch pass after Alexa Espinoza-Gutierrez dribbled through defenders and found the left corner for a 3-0 advantage. Espinoza-Gutierrez then assisted on Schmidt's finale goal in the 65th minute.

"We had to work hard to find our moments to score," said PCC head coach Terryn Soelberg, who enjoyed a victory v. her former college (assistant coach at Santa Ana from 2015-2019). "The small quick combinations up top was where we found our success. We've had a great start, but it's going to be tough and a challenge when we play at Chaffey."
