The Pasadena City College women's swim team didn't start out the 2016 CCCAA Swimming and Diving State Championships well, but the Lancers finished on a high note thanks to the speedy performances of freestyler Ariahn Givens. PCC placed 12th in the state meet held for the sixth straight year at East Los Angeles College's Swim Stadium May 5-7.
Although officially finishing in second place at the South Coast Conference Championships, the Pasadena City College women's swim team was a first in event victories, school feats, and awards at the 3-day meet held at Cerritos College April 21-23.
The 16th Pasadena Invitational continued the meet's tradition of bringing out the best in swimmers across the state as evidenced by the 27 meet records broken in the past two years of the event, including nine at this year's meet. The PCC women's team didn't set a record but it had its best team finish since 2003 in its host event by taking fourth place out of 22 teams.
It came down to the final event, and that's how close it was for the Pasadena City College women's swim team Friday as the Lancers saw their South Coast Conference dual meet winning streak snapped at 18. PCC lost to Mt. San Antonio by the slimmest of margins, 138-136, as the Mounties also won the conference dual title over the defending champion Lancers.
