Men's Swim Splits, Women 0-2 In SCC Meet v. Long Beach, Rio Hondo

The Pasadena City College men's swim team defeated host Rio Hondo, 106-30, and lost to Long Beach City, 210-41 while the Lancers women were edged by the Roadrunners, 77.5-76.5, and defeated by the Vikings, 222-20 in a South Coast Conference double dual meet on Friday.

The Lancers men (2-3 in conference meets) were led by two event victories by Michael Petersen, who the 50-yard freestyle in 22.65 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 49.96. Petersen placed third in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.12. 

Hazem Abdelaty scored second in the 1,000 freestyle (11:50.60). The 200 medley relay of Xerxes Carmen, Brian Moran, Ethan Toro and Petersen finished behind both LBCC's squads in 2:32.56, scoring second but placing third.

On the women's side (0-5 in meets), the Lancers 200 medley relay of Genesis Rojas, Jingxuan Chen, Emily Padilla and Emily Wang took third in 2:37.97 behind the two Long Beach squads participating. 

Individually, Padilla was fourth in both the 1,000 free (12:50) and the 100 butterfly (1:10.27), Wang placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:28.82) and 200 breastroke (3:10.94).

Rojas tied for fourth in the 200 backstroke (3:42.28) and by a stroke of tough luck Rio Hondo's Joslyn Larson hit the wall at the same time for what proved to be the margin of team victory for the Roadrunners. 

Long Beach won all 14 events on the women's side and 13 of 15 in men's events. 

The Lancers host the conference dual finale meet on Friday, Mar. 29 at Pasadena Polytechnic School as PCC's women faces East Los Angeles and El Camino while the men do a solo dual v. El Camino as the Huskies do not carry a men's team. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
