Joelyne Garcia hurled a season-best 108-feet, 5 inches to place second in the javelin as the Pasadena City College women's track and field team's biggest highlight at the South Coast Conference Championship meet held April 25 and April 29 at Cerritos College.
The sophomore Garcia qualified for the Southern California Championships and her throw was #14 in the state rankings. Last year, Garcia threw a career-best 111-3 at the SoCals, allowing her to qualify for the 2022 state meet.
Sophomore Liz Ghazanchian had already qualified for the SoCals with a 12th state ranking on a 126-1 toss in the discus at the Pasadena Invite. However, she didn't fare well at the SCC meet as she took fifth in the discus at 114-5. She did fired off her best throw in the discus this year of 34-1.5 to place fifth in that event.
Overall, the Lancers scored 31 points to place fifth out of seven teams at the SCC Championships. Cerritos totaled 307.5 points to win the team title.
Ashley Comanescu, Sophia Malki, Crystal Ludwig, and Ajes Phillips raced a season-best 4:26.23 in the 4x400 relay for fifth place.
Phillips 1:01.41 in the Prelims was her fastest time in the 400 meters (she was sixth in the final).
Also in the javelin, Melissa Le scored sixth (94-11) and Ludwig took eighth (90-8).
