Women's Volleyball Wins 7th Straight At HP Gym

One of the strengths during head coach Mike Terrill's era in charge of the Pasadena City College women's volleyball team is the Lancers ability to utilize home advantage. The Lancers won for the seventh straight time at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium in sweeping Los Angeles Harbor, 25-8, 25-14, 25-23, Friday night.

The state #17-ranked Lancers are 13-6 overall and upped their South Coast Conference record to 6-3.

Since taking over the program in 2016, Terrill's teams are 55-20 at the HP Gym for a .733 winning percentage. The Lancers best year at home was in 2021 when that squad was 11-1 on campus, losing only to Canyons in a SoCal Regional playoff match. In his first year, PCC was 8-1 at home. This year, the Lancers are 7-2 but on a roll since losing to #9 Ventura and #10 Cypress early in the season in non-conference home contests.

Against Harbor, the Lancers starters dominated in the opening set. Emma Yogan's kill closed an 8-1 run and an 18-5 lead. Ashley Gilbert served back-to-back aces and Yogan's night ended on her set-clinching fourth kill. Starting middle blocker Katie Carius scored two kills in two swings and had a block assist, Gilbert a kill, a block and three aces, and setter Lindsay Delgadillo passed out 10 assists as they took the rest of the evening off as reserve players got playing time in the final two sets.

Ashley Marrone led the off-the-bench parade with seven kills, seven digs and four of the team's season-high 19 aces. Kyley Chang added six kills (hit .417), Itzel Aguayo four kills (.500), two aces and a block solo, Karsyn Gwinnup three kils, three aces and three digs, and Ariana Pedroza three kills, two assists and an ace.

Additionally starter Karmen Turner made seven digs and twirled three aces and starter Kamea Vongfak contributed eight set assists and two aces. Backup Shaylee Ungos set nine assists while Chayse Hoon picked up a kill and two digs. Starting libero Makayla Chiechi had one dig in that first set to add to her team-leading total of 240. 

PCC will try to knock off SCC leader Rio Hondo (9-0 in conference) on Wednesday, Oct. 18 in a 6 p.m. first serve at the HP Gym.
