Franceska Millanponce raced to 15th place overall, just missing all-conference by one place, as the Pasadena City College women's cross country team finished fifth out of six teams at the South Coast Conference Championships Friday afternoon. The 5-kilometer run took place at Palos Verdes Lunada Bay Park, hosted by El Camino.
Millanponce, a freshman from Temple City High, hit the finish line in a time of 22 minutes, 42.10 seconds. Teammate Veronica Mejia (freshman, San Marino HS, 22:53.20) placed 18th and Christina Elizalde (freshman, Duarte, 23:25.20) was 23rd in a field of 50 runners.
The Lancers finished two team points back of fourth-place East Los Angeles, 117-119. Cerritos won the conference title and Falcon Marylu Pulido won the individual crown at 20:36.90.
Other PCC finishers in order were Dirce Pliego in 29th (24:11.80), Valerie Vega 36th (25:55.70), Noemi Diaz 38th (26:24.70), Helen Estrada 39th (26:27.50), Joanna Anaya 43rd (28:30), Yossi Castillo 49th (33:50) and Denise Peterson 50th (43:19). Only the first five runners score in the team points results.
BREAKING NEWS: PCC earned an at-large team bid to the Southern California Championships to be held Friday, Nov. 6 at Mission Bay Park in San Diego.
