The Pasadena City College women's cross country team's 2025 season opened on Friday at the 33rd Vanguard University Invitational. The Lancers participated in a small 5-kiliometer race against Vanguard and fellow upper level UC Irvine, taking third place at Mason Regional Park's course in Irvine.
Leading the Lancers contingent was Amaya Givens, a 5-foot freshman from local Blair High, who ran to 21st place among 41 overall runners. Givens finished in a time of 20 minutes, 1 second, more than two minutes faster than the next PCC finisher.
An all frosh squad took part with Ellen Kim (Crescenta Valley HS) placing 30th at 22:02.4, Camila Gonzalez (Arcadia) in 31st (22:06.2), Graciela Franquez (Lincoln HS) in 36th (22:48), track and field sprinting star Deniya Fields (Muir HS) in 38th (24:08.7), Jennipher German (Applied Technology Center, Montebello) in 39th (25:30.9), and Carolina De Los Santos (Mountain View) in 40th (28:17.7).
Freshmen Priscilla Corona (Bravo Medical Magnet) and Yara Villalvazo (El Rancho HS) are also members of the '25 Lancers.
PCC is directed by head coach Innocent Egbunike, in his ninth season, and helping out is assistant coach James Timphony.
Pasadena next race in the Golden West Central Park Classic in Huntington Beach on Friday, Sept. 19.
