Camila Gonzalez once again showed she can hold her own with the best as she placed 40th overall to represent the Pasadena City College women's cross country team at the 3C2A State Championships held Saturday morning at Fresno's Woodward Park.
The fresman Gonzalez was one of 49 overall racers in the 169-athlete field to hit the finish line in the 3.1 mile course in under 20 minutes.
She raced a 19:45 flat, the fastest time by a PCC women's runner since Ashley Medina ran a 19:33 at the 2014 state meet. The Woodward Park course is the regular host of the state meet and has been the host since 1978.
Deniya Fields, a state-honored track and field sprinter, ran a gutsy 20:44.4 for 96th place as the only other PCC women's qualiifer.
The Lancers were coached this past season by Innocent Egbunike, who finished his ninth season in charge of the program.
