Eleven All-American Swims For 2017 Lancers Men

The 2017 Pasadena City College men's swim team often swam under the radar but in the All-American Top 16 Listings, the Lancers proved their mettle among the nation's best community college athletes. Led by Sydney Odent's four events, PCC totaled 11 All-American swims.

Double The Pleasure For Jo, 2 State Titles, Men's Swim Takes 9th

Samuel Jo became the first Pasadena City College men's swimmer in 26 years to win two state titles at the same state meet Saturday as he led the Lancers to a ninth place team finish at the CCCAA State Swimming and Diving Championships held May 4-6 at East Los Angeles College.

Not Your Average Jo: PCC Swimmer Breaks Record, Wins State 100 Backstroke

Samuel Jo has made it a habit to break his own Pasadena City College men's swim record in the 100-yard backstroke. So when he swam a new record 50.20 seconds Friday, it had an extra reward attached--a state title. Jo's new PCC record was a gold medal at the CCCAA State Swimming and Diving Championships on day 2 of the state meet at East Los Angeles College.

Samuel Jo Is South Coast Co-Men's Swimmer of Year, PCC 3rd Place

For consecutive five years from 2007-2011, the Pasadena City College men's swim team had an athlete named South Coast Conference Swimmer of the Year. After a 5-year drought, the Lancers returned to the award circle as Samuel Jo was named SCC Co-Men's Swimmer of the Year with Mt. San Antonio's Spencer Chlebowski for their performances at the 2017 SCC Championships April 20-22 at Mt. SAC.

Samuel Jo Soars In Backstroke Wins At 17th Pasadena Invitational

Pasadena City College men's swimmer Samuel Jo broke his own school records in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events as part of his two event wins at the 17th Pasadena Invitational held April 6-8 at the Aquatic Center.

Backstroker Samuel Jo Breaks 2 PCC Men's Swim School Records

On March 17 in a conference dual meet at Long Beach City College, Pasadena City College men's swimmer Samuel Jo established the state's top two times in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events. After some research, it was learned that Jo also broke two long-standing PCC school records in the process.

Men's Swim Best Dual Finish In 6 Years, Place 3rd

The Pasadena City College men's swim team swept a double dual meet at Chaffey, defeating El Camino, 162-98, and downing the host Panthers, 196-62, on Mar. 31. That clinched a 5-2 dual meet record, good enough for third place in the South Coast Conference standings. It's the best finish by the Lancers since 2011 when it took second place (6-1).

Odent State's Fastest 1,000 In Men's Swim Win Over Cerritos

Sydney Odent swam 10:03.47 to set the state's fastest time in the 1,000-yard freestyle as part of 10 event wins by the Pasadena City College men's swim team in its South Coast Conference dual meet victory over Cerritos, 161-93, on Mar. 24. The meet was held at the East Los Angeles College Swim Stadium.

Men's Swim's Samuel Jo Tops State In 100, 200 Backstroke

Pasadena City College men's swimmer Samuel Jo has established hlmself as a contender for some state medals in May. The freshman recorded the state's fastest time this year in the 100-yard backstroke at 51.85 seconds and did the same in the 200 backstroke in 1:54.55 in his swims at a South Coast Conference double dual meet at Long Beach City College Friday.

Men's Swim Finally Beats North Foe Diablo Valley, 83-81

From 2009-2016, the Pasadena City College men's swim team made seven trips to Northern California that included a regular dual meet against host Diablo Valley College. The Lancers lost all seven of them. On Mar. 10, the Lancers ended the slump and edged the Vikings, 83-81.

Trio Of Wins For Jo, Odent In Men's SCC Swim Opener

Freshmen Samuel Jo and Sydney Odent both won three events as the Pasadena City College men's swim team split the South Coast Conference-opening double dual meet held at the Aquatic Center Friday. The Lancers crushed LA Trade Tech, 207-36 and lost a fairly close meet v. Mt. San Antonio, 154-124.

Men's Swim Seeking Return To Prominence in 2017

Not since 2011 when it finished in eighth place at the CCCAA State Championships has a Pasadena City College men's swim team had the tools to get back to the state top tier than it does this year. The Lancers are deep in different areas and they opened the '17 season with a strong fourth place out of 17 teams at the Mt. SAC Invitational held Feb. 24-25.
