Yogan Reaches 500-Kill Milestone, #17 Women's VB Sweeps El Camino

Sophomore, 5-foot-10 outside hitter Emma Yogan passed the 500 kills mark in her Pasadena City College women's volleyball team career as the state #17-ranked Lancers swept visiting El Camino, 25-20, 25-7, 25-21, in a South Coast Conference match on Wednesday night.

Yogan, Glacier Peak High in Washington state, hammered 17 kills and hit .417  to go with three service aces and four digs v. the Warriors as she moved her career kill count to 504 in now 43 career matches. 

She put on a clinic in the second set when she scored 10 kills in 16 swings with no errors. Defensive specialist Karmen Turner served an 11-0 run to open the set with setter Lindsay Delgadillo constantly feeding Yogan for power hits.

Pasadena improved to 12-6 overall and 5-3 in SCC play while El Camino fell to 2-13 and 2-6. 

The Lancers scored 61 of their 75 points via kills (50), aces (nine) and blocks (two). The team hit .385 as middle blocker Ashley Gilbert pounded nine kills in just16 attempts (.438) while adding two aces. Middle blocker Katie Carius added six kills (.308) and two block assists while Delgadillo totaled 41 set assists, four digs, two kills and an ace. 

Starting defensive specialist Kamea Vongfak added a team-high nine digs, set three assists, with a kill and an ace. Libero Makayla Chiechi totaled eight digs and served two aces. Turner, who also started, finished with five digs.

The Lancers bench was strong as well with lefty opposite Kyley Chang rifling seven kills in 10 attempts (.600) and outside hitter Ashley Marrone scoring seven kills. OH Chayse Hoon picked up a kill and a block. Turner finished with five digs.

"It was good team performance in front of the home fans," said PCC head coach Mike Terrill. "Emma has been such an important part of our program since coming here as a freshman. She's a terrific, all-around player, a floor leader, and it was fun to see her notch a milestone for herself in PCC history."

Yogan is one of a handful of Lancers to reach 500 kills, a group that includes 2021 All-American Nalani Young (509 in 2019 and '21), Lancers all-time kills leader Nora To'omalatai (668, 2012-2013), Aliyyah Abdullah (503, 2007 and 2010), and Gabby Gallardo (516, 1999-2000).

The Lancers next face Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday, Oct. 13 in a 6 p.m. match at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium. PCC is 7-2 at home this season, but have won six in a row on the HP court.
